One of my very favorite things about the holiday season is all of the SMELLS. I know I’m not alone in this because I have wandered down Target’s candle aisle, and as much as Target gets me, I know they don’t stock their shelves with all of the pine and cedar and balsam and mulling spice and cranberry-scented candles just for me.
Like all holiday-loving-homebodies, I love a good Christmas candle. But, I also have a hard time justifying burning through $25/week just to make our apartment smell festive. So, in the interest of the budget, I’ve taken to stove top potpourri.
Stove top potpourri makes a great alternative to holiday candles for making your home smell Christmassy, as well as providing some much-needed warmth. It is most definitely a cheaper option than candles, and if you’re at all concerned about chemicals in your home, I would venture to guess that stove top potpourri would beat out most candles in the less-artificial-ingredients competition.
You can throw all of the ingredients together in just a few minutes, then simmer away while you sit back and enjoy your home filling with the holiday scents of citrus, cranberry, and spices.
Another great thing about simmering stove top potpourri is that the ingredients themselves look so festive.
If you throw everything into a cute jar (like these!), stovetop potpourri makes a great homemade gift.
