I'm here to tell you that IKEA's Songesand 3-drawer chest is an ideal nightstand!
Finding a nightstand that meets all your storage needs and space requirements is HARD.
I've used all manner of furniture as a bedside table: a tall dresser, a vanity, a cabinet, even a stool. Each one lacking in some area: too short, too tall, not a big enough surface to house my phone/book/water/coffee/lamp, not enough storage and/or not easily accessible storage.
So I feel qualified to tell you that IKEA's songesand 3-drawer chest is an ideal nightstand!
Not only is it a really substantial, quality-feeling piece (which is a nice surprise from an IKEA dresser!), it also has lots of storage with three deep drawers, a big enough surface that I can easily fit all my overnight essentials without it ever feeling crammed, it's the perfect height and depth to reach easily, and it is only $149!
But apart from being a winner in the functionality department, I love the look of this piece! Shaker-style inset drawer fronts? YES, IKEA!
I'm undecided still on if I'll keep this white. It might be painted at some point, and maybe hardware will get swapped out. Somehow our room feels like the bedroom that is least coming together, so I am kind of postponing paint color decisions until it all starts to *click*.
In shopping for a nightstand, I found them to overwhelmingly be undersized and/or lacking storage. So even if the Songesand isn't the right size for you, I highly recommend looking at dressers or chest of drawers instead of furniture specifically labeled nightstand.
