    What We're Doing in 2023

    Jan 17, 2023 · Leave a Comment

House projects on the docket this year!

    Our 70's kitchen

2023 is the year of the kitchen!

We've lived with our very 70's kitchen for 1.5 years now, mulled over how to make its current layout work, how to cover up the wallpaper, the vinyl floors, change out the drop ceiling, the countertops, the petit cabinets... and really, so much needs to be done that we might as well just do it in one fell swoop.

So this year, it's all coming out and we're doing it!

Is this post over? Probably it could be. All other projects feel minor in comparison.

But! It's not just the kitchen. We're also doing the adjoining bathroom. Which I might be even more excited about. The highlights of the bathroom plan are to get rid of the carpet, relocate the sink, and add a wall of cabinets, one of which will contain a washer/dryer. Main floor laundry machines for the win!

carpeted bathroom with wallpaper and a drop ceiling!
Was I falling over when I took this picture? It's possible. Peep the carpet, drop ceiling, and wallpaper! Where the floor vent is currently is where the w/d will go.

Logistics, timelines, and mood boards are all forthcoming. So exciting!

    Big projects

The main focus of our 2023 house project efforts will go toward:

    • The kitchen
    • The main floor bathroom

    Bonus projects

Probably some of these will be sprinkled in throughout the year! I don't anticipate getting to all of these, this is just sort of a choose-your-adventure list.

    • Fencing in the backyard
    • Building out the cut flower garden
    • Basement shelving
    • Finalizing living room furniture/lighting
    • Wall decor (we currently have 1 wall hanging in our house!)
    • Finalizing our bedroom (curtains/paint closets/furniture/bedding)

After this year, we will have done all of the first floor!

Oh! And if you have any tips/tricks/words of wisdom for how to survive a kitchen renovation when you cook 99% of your meals at home, I'm all ears!
