    DIY Cloth Napkin Cafe Curtains

    May 16, 2024 · Leave a Comment

I did these cute cafe curtains in our kitchen using cloth napkins for the panels. It took less than 10 minutes, and all in cost under $30. I love the texture and cottage feel they add to this space. Plus, just the right amount of privacy!

I'd been toying with the idea of adding cafe curtains to the windows above our kitchen table nook for months. When I look at dining areas I have saved on Pinterest, a common thread among them is cafe curtains. Clearly, I love them!

Pros also included: adding just the right amount of privacy for the space. And I also think the key to having a white kitchen that's not sterile is lots of TEXTURE.

    Why cloth napkin curtains

Since these windows above our breakfast nook are on the smaller side, a standard cloth napkin was just the right size to cover the bottom panes.

If the sizing works out, cloth napkins are kind of perfect to use as curtain panels. You can choose from lots of different colors/patterns, it's easy to find 100% cotton or linen options, and they're easy to change out! Plus, no sewing is required.

    How To

    1. Hang your curtain rod at the correct height. Before hanging the curtain rod, I ironed the napkins, clipped them with curtain clips (this is for height only at this point and doesn't have to look nice!), placed the clips on the rod, and held the rod up to the window to mark the correct height for hanging.

Then, I left and tried to distract myself while Josh drilled into our brand new, freshly stained (with love, by me!) wood trim.
    2. Clip the curtains. Use as many or as few clips depending on how many folds you want your curtains to have. You can do pinch pleats if you like, but keep in mind it will shorten the width that each panel covers. (When I tried pinch pleats here, the curtains wouldn't cover the whole window.)
    3. Hang the curtains on the rod. Stand back, and admire!

    I love these curtains!

    Materials:

    • Gingham 100% cotton napkins from Target
    • Curtain clips - I had these left over from another project, but am still including the cost of a new pack in the $30 estimate. I got mine from Joann's, but am linking the exact same ones on Amazon.
